Goose Lake played headquarters for the ninth annual "Sand Castle Beach Party," by the Anchorage Parks and Rec.

Despite the hovering clouds, more than 120 beach enthusiasts showed up Friday to the lake located near the University of Alaska Anchorage.

"Well, we were building a sand castle and well, we were deciding to make a mini Hogwarts, but then it kind of turned out a little bad so we just decided to make [something] instead," said Sophie Mayers, a young sand castle enthusiast.

There were several solo builders along with teams of up to six people in the all-ages event. Some had intricate design ideas and others enjoyed playing around and some learned valuable lessons on teamwork.

"They mostly helped on collecting and we did the building (they were the collectors)," said Mayers. "They were actually very helpful."
