Five Oregon firefighting crews have arrived in Fairbanks.
They're being staged in the state's second-largest city in case wildfires break out in the dry conditions of interior Alaska.
Alaska Interagency Coordination Center officials say in a prepared statement that thunderstorms are predicted and lighting could start more fires in the northern and eastern Interior this week.
The Oregon firefighters that reached Fairbanks over the weekend include hotshot crews from Zigzag, Prospect, Glide, Klamath Falls and Prineville.
