The former commander of the USS Anchorage says he remains upbeat but, tired as he battles cancer.
Captain Brian Quin posted an update Wednesday on his website. He says he just finished his fourth of 12 scheduled chemotherapy treatments.
"I'll complete my fourth round of dosing, which is a pretty good reason for celebration," Quin wrote in his online journal. "In deployment terms, the novelty of the start has worn off and it's way too early to look forward to the homecoming."
Quin was diagnosed with colon cancer on April 15. He underwent surgery four days later.
Quin was instrumental in having the Navy's newest warship, called an amphibious transport dock, named after the city of Anchorage.
The ship and its crew of 360 sailors arrived in Anchorage in early May for its commissioning ceremony. The ceremony was a first for Alaska.
Captain Quin is expected to wrap up his chemotherapy treatments in October.
